In 2002 Swiftnet Solutions won a (NSW) local government tender to design, illustrate and produce a board game for primary school children. This was an initiative of Marrickville Council (Sydney NSW). The board game is called "commUnity". |
The concept of the game is to teach children the value of local government, the importance of community and how to contribute to their local area by being good citizens. The game also aims to teach children how to respect the environment in which they live.
The game was purchased by schools and local community centres for a small fee.
In 2004 Swiftnet Solutions was commissioned by the Department of Local Government and Regional Development (WA), to produce a localised version of commUnity. Read more on the DLGRD website >
The boardgame was a great success in both NSW and WA, and has been recommended as a useful resource to assist teachers with the Civics and Citizenship curriculum in primary school education.
Most importantly the children love to play commUnity!
